Tips to travel

It is time to show you my trips in Scotland !

To travel, you have various possibilities: by train, by bus or rent a car. I point out some things to know about the transports.
Travel by train is easy between big cities. Moreover, people between 16 and 25 years or mature students can benefit of the railcard for £30 the year which give a reduction of 1/3 on rail fares.
Rent a car is a good option to visit the north of Scotland but when we have under 25 years old, there is a young driver surcharge of £36 per day.
Finally, when you take the bus you have to pay the exact amount because they don't return the money (or you can pay by card).

Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a city with a real Scottish atmosphere with a lot of old buildings. I went by train from Paisley for £16 to come and return. It is more a touristic city than Glasgow: there are a lot of animations (like the Ghost bus tour) and shops for tourists (like Harry Potter's shop). You can visit the National Museum of Scotland for free where you see the history of Scotland, art, nature, design, fashion, science and technology collections. An other famous place is the Edinburgh castle that you can visit for £17. And if you want to walk, you can go Arthur's seat where you discover a panoramic view.

Trip in Highlands and Skye

I visit Highlands and Skye during a week end with ISUK tours for £100. This company purpose different tours in Scotland for international students. It is interesting for us because it is difficult to travel in the north of Scotland if we have not a car. We traveled by bus and stop to the best places to see in our road. I let you see and enjoy my pictures of this week-end!

Isle of Arran

During a sunny day, I went to an isle not far of Paisley. I travel during 2 hours: I take the train to Ardrossan and take the boat to Brodick for £14. It is a good place to walk on the beach, in the wood or climb a mountain for the courageous! You enjoy a natural environment and you can even see animals like birds, squirrels and ... seals. There are also places to visit: a distillery and the castle for example. For more information, you can go on Visit Arran .

Next trips?

Obviously, I want to go to the famous Loch Ness. I wait the spring to go there and hope a good weather. I will take the advantage of being in United Kingdom to go to London: it is not expensive by train or by plain. I am also not far of Ireland so I will go there by boat from Ayr or by plain from Paisley.

I hope my advises to travel in  Scotland help you, enjoy and share it!
