Live in Paisley
Hi guys! Even if there are more things to do in Glasgow, Paisley is one of the largest city in Scotland!
In this article, I will show you what you can visit, where shopping and go out.
Visiting Paisley
Barshaw Park
It is a good place for walking where there is a great view of Paisley’s landscape. You can also do golf or miniature railway during the summer. Go on the blog of local residents Friends of Barshaw Park for more details.
Paisley Abbey
It was founded in 1163 in form of a monastery and received the abbey status in 1245. Much of the original building was destroyed by fire in 1307 and restored during the 14th Century. It has been frequented by many Scottish Kings. William Wallace, a famous fighter of the Wars of Independence in the 13th century, was educated here. It has Royal Tombs, fine woodcarving and beautiful 19th and 20th century Stained Glass Windows. This abbey is also famous for its gargoyle which looks like the creature in the movies 'Alien'.
There also other places to see like the Paisley Museum, the Coats observatory and the Central Library but there are currently closed and will re-open in 2022.
Shopping
I give you my advices for food and house shopping. For fruits and vegetables, I go in Gillan green where it is often less expensive. For cleaning products, house products and some food products, Bargin buys is the cheaper place. If you want to shop in one same place, you have to go at Morrisons which is farther but within walking distance. People who live in the UWS campus can come back at the residence with a caddy (a truck comes to pick up the caddies after). Finally for beauty and health products, there are a lot of choices like Boots, Savers or Superdug.
Go out the night
For going out the night, Glasgow is better but I can advice two bars:
- The Lane where there are two music ambiences
- Caffufals where you can do pools or karaoke
Sometimes in the Student union in the University, parties are organized. There are a bar and a DJ like for the night of Halloween for example.
Special events
In Automn, there are some events in Paisley. For Halloween, a festival takes place in the town centre where you can see a parade, fire jets, a flying witches performance or other group performances.
The Paisley's annual fireworks spectacular in November was unfortunately cancelled because of the weather. It is one of the highlights of the event year in Paisley. If you can see it, go for it!
Christmas is coming soon! In the next weeks, it will be the Christmas lights switch on and the Paisley first winterfest.
